Manuel Lubinus, PhD

Manuel Lubinus, PhD, is the Chief Science Officer and Director of the “Right Now Research” initiative at Myositis Support and Understanding (MSU), a patient-led nonprofit advancing research, advocacy, education, and support for people affected by myositis.

Diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) in 2019, Dr. Lubinus turned his lived experience with this rare muscle-weakening condition into a central mission: accelerating patient-centered research and improving outcomes for the myositis community.

He holds a doctorate in immunology and an MBA, with over 25 years of combined experience in bench research, scientific communication, and pharmaceutical/medical device marketing management. After his diagnosis, he retired from corporate roles to dedicate his efforts full-time to myositis advocacy, research strategy, and collaborative scientific initiatives.

In his work with MSU, Dr. Lubinus leads cross-disciplinary partnerships with investigators in the U.S. and internationally, integrates patient perspectives into research planning, and represents MSU in broader scientific collaborations. His approach emphasizes patient-driven research priorities, aiming to ensure that clinical studies, registries, and treatment development directly reflect the lived experiences and needs of those with myositis.
