Presented by Savino Sciascia, this presentation will provide an up-to-date overview of laboratory and clinical aspects of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), including the evolution of the 2023 ACR/EULAR classification criteria, current testing guidelines, and advances in diagnostic technologies.

Savino Sciascia, MD, PhD

Savino Sciascia is a Full Professor in Nephrology at the Center of Excellence on Nephrology, Rheumatology and Rare Diseases at University di Torino, Italy. His major research interests include the management of patients with autoimmune conditions, with a specific focus on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and antiphospholipid antibodies syndrome. He received his MD cum laude from the University of Turin Medical School. He earned his PhD in Complex Systems for Life Sciences investigating mathematic models for risk assessment in patients with autoimmune diseases in collaboration with the Lupus Unit, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, King’s College, London, UK.

He is the author or co-author of over 300 scientific publications. He has an H-index of 44, for a total of 7,004 citations (updated from Scopus, May 2024). He is the coordinator for European Reference Network Disease Group for antiphospholipid antibodies syndrome (ERN-ReCONNET) and for thrombotic-microangiopathy (ERK-net).

Describe the recent updates in APS classification criteria and international guidelines, and their impact on laboratory testing strategies.

Evaluate the advantages and limitations of emerging technologies for APS testing.

 

Investigate the role of laboratory tests in the treatment and differential diagnosis of celiac disease.
